    The city of Moriya is located in the Ibaraki prefecture of the northern Kanto region of Japan, about 35 km from downtown Tokyo. Moriya is surrounded by the Kinugawa, Kokaigawa, and the Tone River, one of the longest rivers in Japan. This suburban area has recently been developed and is popular among those working in the city. It only takes 32 minutes on the JR Tsukuba Express line from Moriya Station to Akihabara, a subculture wonderland located in downtown Tokyo. 

    This transportation route gives you a unique opportunity to explore Akihabara, Japan’s most recognized tech hub. The district is filled with countless electronics shops and dozens of establishments dedicated to anime and manga culture. Today, many visitors gather from all over the world to experience the unique tech and anime sub-culture that Akihabara has to offer. 

    The Moriya Half Marathon has been going strong for over 30 years, currently with 4,000 runners and a cut off time of 2 hours and 15 minutes. In addition to the half marathon, they offer a 2km, 3km, and 5km category as well. At the 10km mark, you will run through a tunnel for almost 1 km. The course is enjoyable with moderate undulations. There are many locals that cheer on the runners along the course with Japanese Taiko drums. Japanese fried noodles, miso soup, drinks and snacks are distributed to the runners. Experience the unique hospitality that this race has to offer!
